Asylum seekers can file their petitions in the U. S. embassies in their home countries, so why not force all asylum seekers to file in their home countries, to save them a trip up to the border only to be turned away? The personnel in the U. S. embassies in those countries have a better feel for conditions on the ground, better able to discern false asylum requests.
