Apparently Heber’s father Selah (see Genesis 10) was the first to have settled the natural fortress which these days is called Petra, tucked-away in the now barren mountains of southwestern Jordan (about halfway between the Dead Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba), it was later called Rekem by Midianites, progeny of Abraham’s son Midian (birthed by Keturah) who lived there alongside Edomites, progeny of Issac’s son Esau, and with progeny of Abraham’s son Nebaioth (birthed by Hagar) the father of the Nabateans, that fortress city lastly named Petra over a thousand years later by the Greeks.
