Keep in mind that the confusion of language at the Tower of Babel happened in the days of Peleg (a great great grandson of Shem), soon thereafter the Pelasgians having become dominant with their megalithic building and navigating expertise in the eastern Mediterranean (and little doubt westward as Iberia probably named for Peleg’s father Heber), so perhaps of Peleg’s sons only Reu remained in the Middle East, from whom four generations later descended Abram later known as Abraham.
