If Trump had not endorsed sometimes RINO Kevin McCarthy for reelection, McCarthy’s near certain victory (facing no real Republican challenge in the primary and a near certain win against the Democrat in the general election) would somewhat decrease Trump’s gravitas, and would cause a much greater rift in the Republican Party, so Trump is banking on McCarthy behaving like a constitutional nationalist rather than a RINO, it’s really all Trump could do under the circumstances, and there’s no guarantee McCarthy would be voted House Speaker by a strong incoming MAGA House membership.
