Flowing west out the the Pamir range (part of the Himalayas) is the Zeravshan River, across Uzbekistan (land of Aram’s son Uz) past Samarkand then Bukhara to disappear into the Kyzlkum desert just short of the Amu Darya river (the Oxus) into which it flowed during the Ice Age and probably up until around 1000 b. c., and along that river valley anciently known as the Sugdh (the kingdom of Sogdia) were tin mines galore, having made that region a center of bronze production for more than a millennium.
