A large component of the political movement in California to secede from the Union (of the United States) is La Raza, which means The Race, its members who say the Aztec homeland Aztlan (or Atlan) was somewhere within the borders of today’s United States, but circa 1300 a. d. when the Aztecs moved down into the central valley of Mexico, many places throughout Central America were named having Atlan, for the original homeland across the Atlantic, the land of the god Atlanteotl (or Atlahua).
