Much of the problem in Afghanistan is that their national wealth is not great, yet the potential is there, a trillion dollars worth of minerals in the ground, if tapped by Afghanis (with western help) which would significantly increase their per capita income. So with Trump reportedly considering to move national security adviser H. R. McMaster to Afghanistan to lead the fight there, perhaps part of the equation is to start companies with the local tribes the major stockholders, to work the mines and aggressively protect them, defending their stake. Mike Pompeo reportedly is being considered to replace McMaster in D. C., then a new chief of the CIA would be needed.
