Venezuela under Maduro is not an immediate threat to the U. S. militarily (although who’s to say how many jihadis live there?), but he’s destabilizing northern South America which is not good for the strategic interests of the U. S., so Maduro seeing how Trump is dealing with North Korea is probably wondering whether he’s next to get an ultimatum to make his nation not a threat to its neighbors (by changing to responsible limited government not socialism) or receive the consequence, making it happen by force and the support of the Venezuelan people.
