Joshua received that name from Moses having previously been known as Hoshea (Hosea) meaning salvation, Hosannah (what the crowd cheered for Jesus when He entered Jerusalem), and Yehoshua (meaning He is salvation) or Joshua, the same name as Jesus (the greek rendering), so Moses apparently received the revelation that the Messiah would come by that name Joshua or Jesus. About five hundred years before Joshua, the wife of Jacob named Rachel was buried at Bethlehem rather than in the Cave of the Patriarchs at Hebron where had been buried such as Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Leah, but Rachel buried at Bethlehem where perhaps Moses associated the coming Messiah named Joshua (Jesus).
