It’s a good bet that Trump and the Freedom Caucus knew that the only way to make Kevin McCarthy behave as Speaker of the U. S. House of Representatives was to make public his concessions for all the world to see, hence while Trump publicly backed McCarthy early on, little doubt he at least secretly hoped/knew that the Freedom Caucus would make McCarthy’s promises be known to all.
