If Putin really is of Rus ancestry, his ancestors over a thousand years ago were speaking Swedish, a northern Germanic language, those ancestors who then sailed up the rivers feeding into the eastern Baltic Sea, some of whom continued south to voyage down the Dnieper and Dneister rivers into Ukraine where they adopted eastern Slavic language, the Russian language actually an offshoot of Ukrainian.
