According to Greek legend, what today is called the Berdan river in the Mersin region of south-central Turkey (flows into the northeastern corner of the Mediterranean) was first named the Cydnus, for a grandson of Iapetus (Japheth), that river perhaps in the same timeframe also called the Tarsis for another grandson of Japheth (see Genesis 10) named Tarshish (a son of Javan/Ion namesake of the Ionians), Tarshish whose progeny when the Ice Age ended sailed to the mineral rich Sierra Morena mountains just west up the coast from the tip of southern Spain to found Tharsis (near Huelva).
