Embarrassment is probably chief among those felt by Putin these days, embarrassed that he completely misread Ukraine’s determination and ability to defend, yet he should be thankful now (the proverbial silver lining) knowing that his kinsmen the Ukrainians are strong and not wanting to attack Russia like he did to them, wanting to behave like Slavs of two distinct nations, like other Slavic speaking nations.
