When Ferdinand Magellan named the Pacific Ocean, he had found it peaceful, passive upon sailing into it, and the Indian Ocean was named for the mighty Indus river which flows into it, while the Atlantic was named for Atlantis, a real empire of the Ice Age. That the Atlantean empire was real is like the reality of dragons (dinosaurs) in ancient history (and some today?), surely indicated by the ancient Chinese having the dragon among the eleven other known animals representing their signs of the zodiac.
