About a hundred-fifty miles east of the northeastern corner of the Mediterranean Sea are the sites of ancient Haran and Serug (Suruc) founded by Abram’s brother (Haran) and great grandfather (Serug), near Urfa founded by their ancestor Arphaxad, a son of Shem (see Genesis 10). Abram’s father Terah was a star worshipper, perhaps having taken part of ceremonies at the astrological religious centers at Karahan Tepe, Gobekli Tepe, Hamzan Tepe, Sefer Tepe, and Nevali Cori.
