The same Tarshish (a grandson of Japheth) for whom a thousand years later (when the Ice Age had ended) would be named Tartessos (southern tip of Spain) was named the Tarsus river which empties near the northeastern corner of the Mediterranean, fed by streams from the mineral rich Taurus (bull) mountains to the north. When the Ice Age ended circa 1500 b. c., the first of the so-called Phoenicians (Canaanites named for Agenor’s son Phonix) brought phonics to the Mediterranean, Phonix’s brother Cilix having settled at the Tarsus river in the land then called Cilicia.
