Checkout the amazing pics of the magnificent megalithic ruins of Perperikon in the Rodopi mountains of southern Bulgaria at a big bend of the Perpereshka River, tributary of the Maritsa river flowing eastward into the Hebrus (named for Peleg’s father Heber) which flows south into the Aegean sea. The name of the site Perperikon is from the Greek word hyperpyros meaning high altar fire or gold refining fire, the nearby Perpereshka river laden with gold in those days, the center of Thracian wealth and worship.
