Jovan or John are forms of the name Javan or of his father’s name Japheth, Father Jove, the Pra-Japati of India, thus John and Jovan (with the letter n in those spellings) probably names from Javan (Ion), whose progeny settled the length of the Mediterranean while other progeny Japheth of such as those of his son Madai moved east after the Tower of Babel.
