No mere coincidence is that the Canaanite city Lachish on the western slope of the Judaean Hills (about 30 miles southwest of Jerusalem) was torched circa 1150 b. c. around the time that the Philistines built hilltop Ziklag (Khirbet a-Ra’i) only a few miles away, Philistine Ziklag later controlled by King David who even received assistance from the Philistines after he had slain their hero the giant Goliath.
