Abraham’s grandson Esau who eschewed his birthright for some stew was the father of the Edomites who lived south of the Promised Land, those progeny of Esau whose king 500 years later rejected Moses’ request to enter the Promised Land from the south, through Edom, only later though to enter from the east through the land of Moab who was a son of Abraham’s nephew Lot.
