In order to attempt to validate the earth much older than what the book of Genesis clearly indicates, some geologists in Charles Darwin’s day cited the current rates of sedimentation as indication that it took hundreds of millions of years for the sedimentary rock column to have accumulated, much as the uniformitarian radioisotope rock daters these days assume the decay rates of the radioactive isotopes have not changed and assume to know the initial concentration of the radioactive materials in the rock.
