When people think nothing good could happen for them after their life on earth, they feel that they have nothing to lose in doing all for self, whole heartedly seeking to become famous (which too often turns out infamous) and/or rich the goal, thus the public schools, treating the Bible as myth, have much to do with crime and unrighteous sense of entitlement having become so rampant, not at all what the Founding Fathers of the Untied States envisioned.
