The damage being done by the deliberate economic shutdown of the United States (and much of the rest of the world) because of a pandemic is certainly prophetic in that such a deliberate shutdown has never happened before because of similar viruses, many of which are now just part of the basket of seasonal flus we endure every fall, winter, and spring. Millions of small businesses are being destroyed by the shutdown, how many lives seemingly ruined, how many lives awash in despair?
