Although the U. S. Senate certainly would conduct the trial as constitutionally mandated should the House Democrats vote to impeach president Trump, the Senate leader Mitch McConnell says it’s inconceivable that Trump would be convicted and removed from office, so the 31 House Democrats from districts won by Trump in 2016 are facing the reality that if they vote to impeach they will have made their reelections nearly impossible.
