Sumo derives from the Japanese word for wrestling, Sumo like king of the hill, to the Japanese the Sumo ring the “sacred mound,” to the Sumerians of ice age Mesopotamia the sacred mound Mt. Sumeru, or Meru, in the land commonly known Sumer, which dried-up when the Ice Age ended circa 1500 b. c.
