In the 1976 Republican presidential primary, Ronald Reagan ran and lost against the establishment candidate Gerald Ford, but in 1980, still hated by the establishment Republicans, Reagan nevertheless won against the establishment man George H. W. Bush and then crushed Jimmy Carter in the general election, much as Donald Trump defeated the establishment Republicans in the primary to go-on-to victory over Crooked Hillary, so Reagan and president Trump really are two peas-in-a-pod, the populist for constitutional nationalism having the winning message.
