After the Tower of Babel, Japheth’s son Gomer ventured northward into the Black Sea region (it was a big lake then, during the Ice Age) where his people became known as the Cimmerians (Crimea), and his son Askhenaz a namesake of much the same people known as the Ashkuza by the Akkadians (Assyrians of Shem’s son Asshur), and later known by the Greeks as the Scythians.
