Obama surely knew in 2012 that Putin had his sights set on taking Crimea, so when he told Medvedev during the hot mic encounter that he would be “more flexible” after his 2012 reelection. it surely was a green-light to Putin to march into Crimea in 2014 with Obama being “flexible” by not lifting a finger.
