Reportedly the U. S. did not warn Russia about the attack tonight (Friday) on the Syrian chemical warfare facilities, so Putin almost surely is surprised, maybe having lost some anti-aircraft batteries knocked-out at the beginning of the attack and some personnel perhaps at the sites bombed.
