Historians of ancient China usually peg the beginning of the first dynasty back to circa 2150 b. c., the Xia dynasty (during the Ice Age), which was followed by the Shang dynasty circa 1250 b. c. when the Ice Age had ended. By about 1000 b. c. (the time of king David in Israel), the Zhou dynasty drove out the Shang, who apparently then sailed to South America to begin the Mochica and Chavin cultures near the coast.
