Statements made sounding like questions (to sound sensitive we suppose) is a plague on humanity these days, for instance a boss saying “the ceiling must be painted first” delivered as “the ceiling must be painted first?” Making statements as questions causes the utterers to sound quite passive really sheepish, as if pleading please don’t hurt them for speaking at all, or as if the hearers are children.
