The Herat or Hari Rud (river) flows west from the Hindu Kush of Afghanistan for 600 miles ending in the Kara Kum desert of southern Turkmenistan, verdant during the Ice Age where flourished the Bactria Margiana Archaeological Complex (the BMAC), that civilization which ended circa 1500 b. c. when many did because of climate change (the end of the Ice Age). The Hari Rud, meaning golden river, was also called the Arius river, of the kingdom of Aria, the root of the word Iran and Aryan, those of the BMAC perhaps progeny of Madai (a son of Japheth).
