Unless you want to believe that the Atlantic ocean was called something else for millennia until Plato called it that, because of his Atlantis story that name made famous to become the name of that ocean, you’d have to determine what it was supposedly called before Plato’s day, yet considering it’s always been called that (or the Western ocean), it must have been named for real Atlas, a grandson of Canaan who sailed to the eastern Atlantic with his father Sidon (Posidon) after the Tower of Babel.
