Back in 2012, the Houston Press reported that although the inner sides of the Barker and Addicks earthen dams of west Houston were cemented in the 80’s, for some reason they were not cemented around the culverts which release the floodwater into Buffalo Bayou below, now reportedly showing signs of leakage, so to relieve the pressure of the stored water on the dams’ weak spots, more flow is outgoing than otherwise would be, thus property near the bayou downstream will be flooded for weeks rather than what would have been several days.
