Plato used the same word nesos (meaning island or peninsula) for the island city of Atlantis and for the geography of greater Atlantis, the former now submerged (since circa 1400 b. c.) south of Cadiz, the latter having depicted apparently by the Iberian peninsula although he also wrote that greater Atlantis extended inside Gibraltar (Pillars of Hercules) to Libya (and to Italy), outside how far he did not say, so don’t be confused by the translation always being island, because nesos for greater Atlantis meant the area of the ice age coastal empire of said extent.
