Aside from the bizarre fact that a statue of the confederate general Robert E. Lee is in a park named for the Emancipation (in Charlottesville, Virginia), all people should understand that showing reverence for a general for the Civil War South is an offense to many black people and to most white people as well, so although the “white nationalists” do have the right to advocate that the statue stay up, they must realize having it up is like a statue of Malcolm X would be received in their mostly white neighborhoods.
