Low income earners and welfare recipients in the United States live much better than the vast majority of the people in the rest of the world, so the Leftists bemoaning a supposed lack of compassion and opportunity for the poor are ridiculous, and should be asked why discourage the capitalistic system (with charity) having propelled the U. S. to greatness?
