In the iron age buriel kurgans from the Altai mountains of eastern Kazakhstan to the Ukraine are found burials of Sarmatian warriors, 20% of them women, and dressed in the same battle gear with weapons used by the men, because circa 1000 b. c. some Amazon women, legendarily blown west across the Azov Sea, married Scythian men beginning the Sarmatian tribe, for sar meaning women and mat meaning led in the indo european (japhetic) language which they spoke, the language probably of biblical Japheth’s grandson Ashkenaz for whom the Scythians (and Sakas) were named.
