Before the tsunami of 2004 struck the coast of southeastern India, the sea receded almost half a mile to reveal stone walls of the legendary ancient city of Mahabalipuram, the submerged site which later was investigated and determined to have been a city about two miles square with extensive stone buildings and megalithic walls, it was the legendary City of the Seven Pagodas, submerged since circa 1400 b. c. when the Ice Age ended.
