Shem (a son of Noah), known too as Melchizedek (meaning my king if righteousness) in the book of Genesis, following the Tower of Babel may have moved directly to where would become known as the Promised Land to found the city called Salem meaning peace, surrounded though by evil Canaanites who performed abominable acts such as child sacrifice. Shem blessed Abraham there, the city by then become known as Uru salim, city of peace, and later the city of Jebus, a Canaanite, but king David reacquired the land by purchase and capture a thousand years after Shem had lived there.
