Ur of Chaldeans Urfa Home of Abraham Founded by Ancestor Arphaxad Land of Shinar Region of Sinjar Mountains

Out of ignorance many believe that Abraham’s homeland Shinar, also called the Ur of Chaldees in the Bible, was ancient Sumer where was the city-state of Ur of lower Mesopotamia (verdant during the Ice Age), but Sinjar is the modern rendition of Shinar, of upper Mesopotamia, in that region the city of Urfa (and Arpachiya to the east) named for Shem’s son Arphaxad. Sumer was named for the Sumeru, the Tower of Babel, memorialized in names of pagan holy mountains such as Mt. Meru of the Himalayas.
