Where Moses sent out the 12 spies northward into the land of Canaan near the beginning of the 40 year Exodus was Kadesh Barnea, today Ain al Qadeis, just over the current border in Egypt, about 100 miles to the southwest from Jerusalem and about 30 miles northeast from the ancient border of Israel and Egypt, the wadi El Arish, the “Brook of Egypt” which circa 1450 b. c. was still flowing perennially.
