During the Ice Age, the Bitter Lakes of far northern Sinai was the Reed Sea where the Israelites escaped the Egyptian army which was drowned when the separated water surged back, when the powerful wind which had blown all the preceding night ended, having exposed an east to west trending shoal of the Reed Sea where the Israelites crossed, that shoal now land between two of the Bitter Lakes.
