Not only did Plato in his Atlantis story write that there was a great landmass beyond the Western Ocean (the Atlantic), medieval maps of the world (such as the Waldseemuller) based upon ancient source maps showed what today are called North and South America, the longitudes for east to west distances quite precise on those fascinating medieval maps drawn when they did not have the knowledge to measure longitude accurately, earth measure, geometry.
