Over two hundred years before philosopher Karl Marx began touting communism, the Pilgrims led by William Bradford tried what they called “a communistic plan of life” for a few years, which resulted in little production and lots of grousing among the faithful working for the whole, so instead each family was allotted land according to their number, whereupon production boomed, capitalism abiding with human nature while with communism not at all.
