Meroe on the Upper Nile First Named Saba for Son of Kush Later Medewi for Beja Tribe Their Language Kushitic

Eight hundred miles south of Cairo, up the Nile river between its 1st and 4th cataracts (wide shallow stretches), was the kingdom of Nubia (meaning gold), its capital Saba named for a son of Kush (see Genesis 10), and when the Ice Age ended, the climate changed, the city was begun known as Medewi (Meroe to the Greeks), Bedewi, named for the Beja tribe who today speak the purist Kushitic tongue left, the language of the Meroitic hieroglyphic and cursive scripts.
