Abraham’s Birthplace in Ur of Chaldees Near Upper Euphrates Named for Arpachshad a Grandfather of Heber

On the upper Euphrates river, about a hundred miles due east from the northeastern corner of the Mediterranean, is the ancient city of Sanliurfa which means great Urfa, who was Arpachshad, one of the grandsons of Noah and a grandfather of great Heber for whom were named the Hebrews. In the book of Genesis that place is called Ur-kasdim, the people there known to the Assyrians (progeny of Asshur) as the Kasdu or Kaldu, Chaldeans, the Ur of Chaldees where Abraham was born.
