About five hundred miles to the west of Singapore is Gunung Padang, a megalithic structure of horizontally built basaltic rock columns of prism-like form which composed a tiered pyramid before earthquakes through the centuries fell the structures. This building method using basaltic columns is seen at Ponpei (Nan Madol) of the western Pacific, there with ruins also reported submerged offshore at depths below a hundred feet, submerged since circa 1500 b. c. when the Ice Age ended.
